Description

The intersection of Commercial Road and St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide known as “Black Diamond Corner” is depicted in the trolley bus era, as photographed by Bob Thorjussen in December 1960. Williams Newsagency in Bruce’s Buildings can be seen at left and in the centre stands Ezywalkin’s factory and shop. At left, the last of the “silent cops” is directing traffic which consists mainly of the various models of the Holden and the odd Ford!  The Silent cop was superseded by traffic lights in 1968 and is now located near the old customs house at the end of commercial road.
